Feeding the Bees

I was pretty proud of myself a couple of weeks ago when I pushed my 800 lb lawn tractor out of the shed and through the mud. Unfortunately, that set off a cascade of issues that ended in a bulging disc in my back. This leaves me in the precarious position of being unable to bend down and unable to lift more than 10 lbs. So… I leaned on Lisa to take care of my bee related chores.

When I proposed getting bees, she was very exited about having fresh locally source honey, but not exited about helping with the bees. To her credit, she’s a natural.

This morning we both suited up and delivered 2 gallons of sugar water to our newly placed hives. Early in the season, it’s good to provide the bees extra sugar sources. They use it to build comb as they expand into a much larger hive and start multiplying like crazy for the summer’s work ahead.

The bees have been fed. No beekeepers were stung in the process. It could not have gone better.
